Nice guy, great Indian actor! When I was a kid he seemed to be everywhere on the screen. A real super star!

One of a Kind

Bob Atwater Sep 12, 2009

An Outstanding actor who should have received more credit! He performed opposite John Wayne, Chuck Heston, Clint Walker, and so many others. One of the best portrayals of the Native American in so many westerns for both television and the movies. R.I.P. Michael! You were truely "One of a Kind"

A Wonderful Actor

Diane Thompson Sep 17, 2008

I remembered him playing a Indian as a child. But I loved him best in Matlock police. I used to live near Lilydale and saw some filming of the shows when I was a teenager. Even now I set my alarm for 2.30 Tuesday mornings to watch Matlock on Win televison. I love it, takes me back ,Michael made the show. Even though I never had the honnor of meeting him it brought tears to my eyes when I heard of his passing.

He was devoted to fostering young actors

Marilyn Sep 06, 2008

I met Michael when he was a judge at a high school drama festival back in the late 1960s. I was one of the few high schoolers present who actually knew who Michael was--this despite his frequent appearances in U.S. movies and TV shows. But then the great character actors frequently go unrecognized offscreen, don't they? He truly was devoted to teaching and fostering young actors.

My Memory

I remember Michael's incredible patience with me as I was trying to break into the script-writing field. He could easily have brushed me off (as many here did in those days) but he was wonderfully understanding and encouraging. To all who aspire to the craft ... you can never go wrong by taking a leaf out of this great man's book. I regard Michael Pate as having greatly contributed towards putting Australia on the map, something we can all be very proud of.

Responsible for my career

Nick Parissis Sep 02, 2008

Growing up in the 1970's I loved watching Matlock Police. I thought it would be great being a policeman like Michael in Matlock Police. I used to ride along on my bike pretending to be a police officer from Matlock Station. So as an 18 year old I became a police officer and have loved it ever since.

RIP Michael.

My Memory

Colin Walsh Sep 02, 2008

I met Michael some years ago while working at the Daily Telegraph. I travelled to his beautiful home with photographer Bob Findlayson on the Central Coast and we spoke long about everything including his Army days, what a tough bugger Michael was, with a heart of gold and mind as big as the moon, He could talk about anything to anyone. His passion for script writting and AppleMac computers was vast! I met his wife and son Christopher and can i say two beautiful people. I loved the episodes of Matlock Police where Michael stared. He was a tremendous actor. I have watch Hondo a dozen times and read his book Entertaining War!
I often spoke to Michael over the phone about his Apple G4 computer and two or three hours would pass before i'd say 'Michael i have to go and do some work' but i tell you i wish i never hung up now!!
